Molo Mhlaba operates as the first single-sex network of schools offering STEAM education from early childhood development through to primary school.
We offer safe, affordable, and quality education for girls in their communities, thus saving parents money on transport costs and reducing the long daily commutes for learners travelling from townships to urban areas to access quality education.
By growing into a network of 10 schools, we will operate the biggest dance and art school in South Africa.
By focusing on women and girls, we improve their quality of life and that of their families. We create economic pathways that will positively impact generations to come.
Our Girlpreneur Programme equips young girls with entrepreneurial training and small business start-up funding, growing an entrepreneurial business incubator across South Africa.
Molo Mhlaba uses the opportunities presented by the Fourth Industrial Revolution to offer a high-quality STEAM-based curriculum combined with Montessori education to instil 21st-century skills in women and girls from impoverished backgrounds.
MEET THE FOUNDER
MEET THE FOUNDER
Rethabile is the Founder and Director of Molo Mhlaba Schools, a non-profit organisation that provides STEAM education to young girls in Khayelitsha.
She has more than a decade of experience in the non-profit sector, having led numerous large-scale projects and consultancies. Her work has included initiatives focused on the role of sport in public health, gender and vulnerability, HIV/AIDS prevention, and the provision of basic education across Southern Africa.
A trained social worker, Rethabile holds a Master's degree in Social Policy and Management from the University of Cape Town and a PhD in Social Work from Stellenbosch University. Her doctoral research focused on governance in non-profit organisations.
With over a decade of professional experience, Rethabile has developed expertise in monitoring and evaluation, capacity building, grants management, philanthropy, and the design, development, and support of programmes within the basic education sector.
