OUR CURRICULUM

Molo Mhlaba offers a project-based Montessori curriculum that is infused with STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics) for girls as young as 3 years old. Our schools include pre-primary and primary school campuses.

Molo Mhlaba’s pedagogy is aligned with the Montessori pedagogy and tailored to the context of Khayelitsha and other underserved communities where the girls and the school are located.

By offering a child-led learning environment, we infuse our celebration of Pan-Africanism into the curriculum in a myriad of ways. Our classroom practice is informed by the eight principles of Montessori Education.

OUR MODEL

Nutritious meals

Learners are served two hot meals (breakfast and lunch) and two snacks to ensure healthy minds and bodies.

Small classrooms

With a teacher-to-learner ratio of 1:25, we have smaller classrooms that make for better learning environments and a manageable workload for teachers and their assistants.

Location

Molo Mhlaba Schools are located in the same communities as the children we serve. Through this, we reduce the travel time required to get to and from school and positively impact the mental health and identity of learners by showcasing what is POSSIBLE in their communities.

Extended school days

The school day is from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. so that working parents can drop off and collect their children. Children are kept safe and engaged through experiential after-school care programmes run by the school.

Highly qualifed teachers

Through the Molo Mhlaba Institute, we achieve our commitment to improving the quality of learning in the classroom by ensuring that teachers are enrolled in Continuous Development Programmes. We pride ourselves on recruiting women and youth from the same community as the school and introducing them to the Montessori philosophy.
